The education of children started with the Christian faith. The removal of the reality of Jesus Christ from everyday school life has produced a moral shift away from Christian biblical standards, which we find very concerning. Our desire to found believing, bilingual schools springs from a passion to see children and young people equipped to live the abundant, victorious life Jesus died to give them, and thus be able to bring life and vibrancy into the communities around them.

To “fly the colours” or to do something “with flying colours” means to achieve a complete, overwhelming success or victory. The idiom refers to the historical practice of armies and ships displaying their flags or colors prominently to signify triumph in battle. Naming our school after this idiom expresses our conviction to raise the standard of schooling available in this part of East Germany back to being biblically based with God’s Word elevated to its rightful place and thus able to achieve God’s desire in the child’s life.

At The Flying Colours school it is our desire to chart a course for the best possible life God has in store for your child. Through close collaboration with you as parents and together with our teachers we want to discover the ‘way that they should go’ (Proverbs 22:6), walking with them as we embark upon this journey called education in a believing Christian community.

We are currently in the process of setting the school up, working on the concept. The plan is to begin with a junior school consisting of a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class.

Our Core Values

Connected Christian Community

In a world where people often feel isolated we want to create a space where all members of the school family are vitally connected to each other. The parents being involved in the daily school life of their children, the teachers feeling supported by both their colleagues and the parents, and the children forging strong bonds with both their teacher and friends at school.

“I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” – Colossians 2:2 NLT

Bible Based

In a society where the biblical standard and foundation of the Christian faith is being cast aside, we will return the Bible back to it’s central place in every part of school life.

Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” – Deuteronomy 11:19

Bilingual

“To speak another language is to possess a second soul.” – Charlemagne

Charlemagne’s insight into speaking another language encapsulates the gift that this can be. We want to create a space where the children are immersed in English as well as German, beyond the confines of English being just a subject. The more comfortable the pupils become with the international language, the more opportunities they will have to experience international  culture.

Why biblically based education is so important to us

“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action). So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The above Scripture is in essence a summary of why the Bible needs to be central to the education of our children. These God-inspired truths will instruct, correct, discipline and train our child to live a life of rightness, which not only glorifies God but will positively impact the culture around them. A biblically-based education will literally form the character of a child so that they are equipped to successfully navigate all that comes their way, the victories and the tragedies.

To put it another way, as Proverbs 22:6 says “Train a child up in the way they should go and even when they are old they will not depart from it.”

Before the 20th century, education was not focused primarily on job preparation but on the development of the student’s character. Character will keep a person walking on the path of life no matter the opposition. For this reason success in our eyes will always be viewed through the lens of godly character and integrity,  rather than merely academic achievements.
